As part of our last real weekend in Namaacha, we decided it was high time for a scavenger hunt. So two of our group set the task: 50 objects to find and either photograph or bring back to our meeting place, worth a total of 100 points. Some things were simple. A photo of a black goat, a white goat, a black and white goat, someone carrying something on their head, bring back a package of Maria cookies. Other things were harder. Get a photo with a policeman carrying an AK-47 (it’s illegal to photograph government personnel, which is what made that one difficult), a picture of a Swazi border guard (were we willing to make the mile and a half trek to the border). The time limit was two hours. And never have Americans made such a reputation in a town for being so stark raving mad. But it was a wonderful way to spend a few hours with people, especially with our time together drawing to a close. We all bumped into each other around town, and we all had good laughs at the end as we swapped stories of the strange looks we received while looking for objects.
And now for my plug, since I haven’t made one in a while. One thing I’ve realized that happens when someone makes a blog is that the flow of information is one sided. I have an easy route to update people on what is going on in my life, and that is wonderful. But I’ve found I quickly lose touch of what is happening in the lives of everyone back home. So here is my request: please please please send me an update on your life. I promise, there is nothing better than opening up a long message from someone and being able to completely catch up on life’s activities. It doesn’t matter who you are. If you’re reading my blog, I want to hear from you. Please! No detail of your life is too mundane.
Here’s a smattering of photos from the adventure.
