Down time is a very pervasive thing here. There is no internet (aside from the brief glimpses I get on my phone when 3G actually does work here), which takes away a lot of my time wasting techniques. I do have a Super Nintendo simulator on my computer with 750 snes games, but unlike in my childhood I am no longer capable of spending endless hours playing games. An hour of NBA Hangtime before I lose interest. Defeat one world in Super Mario 3, then you gotta stop while you’re ahead. One or two fights in Mortal Kombat before giving up in frustration because you aren’t nearly as good as you used to be….
And so I’ve been reading quite a lot. It took me a little while to start reading to pass the time, but since then, I’ve been a voracious reading of anything from the last book in the Eragon series to Crime and Punishment, from 100 Years of Solitude to Shakespeare. I’ve read eight books and plays since the beginning of November, and the only reason I might be slowing down is because school has started, which means some lesson planning and teaching. I these next two years will be the time I catch up on all the books I’ve meant to read, but haven’t quite gotten to yet. I have a little list going of what I mean to read here, and a list of what I’ve read already. I won’t bore you with the gory details, but needless to say, the to-read list is quite long. However, I would love suggestions! If there is something you think I should read, from classic literature to the latest novel, let me know what it is! I have quite a large ebook collection, so odds are I might have it, unless it’s the most recent. If I don’t have it, I’ll try to get my hands on it.
