The Random Questions Game

Here’s a game I think I will play from time to time on my blog for the next two years. It’s called “random questions asked by students.” I have a feeling the strangest questions will be asked in the first couple weeks of school, but here’s an opener from the first couple days:
There are the simple ones, like “are you married?” or “do you have any children?” I am 23 after all, so in Mozambican time, I’m a little behind for my age.
I began my first class introductions with an introduction of myself, which included my name and that I’m from the United States, and I’m 23 years old. I then usually ask if they have any questions for me. One of the first questions I received was “what is your nationality?” It confused me a little bit that saying I was from the United States did not sufficiently cover my nationality. Then another student asked “what is the United States?” Bingo, that explains it. I then got the question “who is the president of the United States?” 10 minutes ago they didn’t know the USA was a country, and now they want to know the president. I replied “Barrack Obama,” causing an eruption of murmurs all through the classroom… why you might ask? Our neighbor and fellow teacher at school is nicknamed Obama.
