Slapstick

I recently experienced a high gravity day. I am nearly certain that I’ve lost weight since I arrived in Mozambique. And despite my diminishing mass, I broke my bed frame…
My bed here is a rope bed; this means it has a wood frame that is strung with a woven rope. Think hammock, but instead of hanging it between two trees, it has four legs and a wood box. These types of beds are quite nice because you can adjust how much it behaves like a hammock. More hammock-like is better for taking naps. A tauter frame acts more like a normal box frame in the states. There is still a little sag, that can’t really be helped. I decided one morning that I wanted to tighten the rope of my bed. So with the help of Ofelio, my night of sleep was looking very welcoming. I replaced my bedding, and was making my bed, when I knelt on my bed. With a resounding CRACK, the side of the frame (basically a 2x2) snapped…
This cannot be happening. I 2x2 by tightening rope and then putting perhaps a hundred pounds of weight on it…. Things I’m now grateful for in the states: structural integrity.
