The Rule of Tenths

One of the student speeches at my graduation talked of the re-definition of time all college graduates must undergo. At Carleton, we defined time 10 weeks at a time, and found relativity within each week. Friday second week was much different from Wednesday fifth week.
I currently find myself back into the 10 week time scheme. Training is 10 weeks, and I’m currently in the throes of midterms. I have my first LPI (language proficiency interview) on Friday, along with a round robin practical exam on safety, health, and household activities.  As soon as I finish my exams on Friday, I find a reprieve from constant Portuguese. I leave on Saturday to visit the site of a current PC volunteer, in Nametil, Nampula Province, which is in the northern part. I fly with a fellow trainee, and we’ll be living with another American for 4 days to see what life is like after we leave the bubble of training. I’m about to see the wide world of greater Mozambique, and hopefully a sneak peek into life beyond the 10 week time system.
